At the time, my son was neck deep in Skylanders (by proxy so was I) so it just seemed like a natural fit for Disney to create a similar product. Unfortunately, the original Disney Infinity lacked the punch and playability of its competition. It did have the Toy Box, a sandbox creation suite based around the worlds of the Disney characters, but it lacked structured story-based gameplay. In short, it was only mildly entertaining and pretty boring overall."

Disney is continuing to expand the Infinity universe with their 2.0 roll-out that focuses on Marvel's super heroes. During the summer there was the announcement that a Guardians of the Galaxy expansion would be available that features the heroes from the popular brand.

It does so in a very smart way, leveraging The Avengers, Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy as its launch Play Sets. For those who haven't played the original Disney Infinity (this is the "2.0 Edition") the game, along with the Disney Infinity Base, and three meticulously crafted Avengers vinyl figures (Black Widow, Iron Man, and Thor) along with an Avengers Play Set piece are sold in the initial Starter Set. Placing the vinyl figures on the Disney Infinity Base, along with power disc ability boosters, allows the player to use that individual character in the Play Set they were created for, offering each essentially a dedicated sandbox game.
